Connaught Tunnel
Connaught Tunnel in the Royal Docks was built in 1878 and was part of the North London line until 2006. The tunnel was extensively refurbished as part of works to construct Crossrail's new Abbey Wood branch.
VVB was appointed by Vinci Construction UK to carry out the design, supply, installation, and commissioning of Temporary Mechanical and Electrical (M&E) and Communications services. Important systems, required for the day-to-day operation of the project’s construction team.
VVB’s role involved:
- Design, supply and installation of temporary Mechanical services
- Design, supply and installation of temporary Electrical services
- Design, supply and installation of Communication services
- Maintenance of temporary tunnel services
All works were carried out in accordance with the Crossrail project requirements, and BS6164.
VVB’s scope for the temporary tunnel systems included ventilation, a compressed air line, firemain, pumped drainage system, LV distribution, lighting, fire alarm system, telephone system and fixed gas monitoring system.
