Senior Mechanical Engineer 

Location- Croydon

Salary- £50,000-£55,000

VVB provide Mechanical and Electrical installation services to a variety of industries across the UK. We have recently had an exciting opportunity for a Senior Mechanical Engineer, to join one of our projects based in Croydon, on a 12 month fixed-term contract. This is an integral role for the project, managing the day-to-day activities of the Mechanical works, as well as working closely with the Project Manager on future works.

Key responsibilities:

  • Create a detailed work plan which identifies and sequences the activities and gateways needed to successfully complete the project
  • Determine the resources including time and cost for labour and materials required to complete the project in-line with the cost plan
  • Create material take offs and equipment schedules for procurement and raise requisitions
  • Liaise with the Project Engineer(s) to monitor Quality Control, Assurance and handover documentation
  • Ensure that site Installation activities are performed in-line with contractual requirements
  • Devise and distribute work among the group of supervisors.
  • Lead all mechanical supervisors during site planning, execution and monitoring.
  • Material verification, preservation, monitoring and early notification for shortages, damages etc – including consumables.
  • Collate, review and present all reports to the Project Manager and Project planner for further reporting and analysis
  • Review design submissions and provide technical and constructability comments.
  • Liaise and co-ordinate with external suppliers for the procurement, supply and installation of mechanical engineering packages and systems.
  • Assist with, and carry out, commissioning of mechanical systems.
  • Prepare suitable risk assessments and method statements for the mechanical project activities.
  • Generate, prepare, collate and close out ITP’s for mechanical systems.
  • Complete constructability assessments
  • Ensure full compliance with all H&S requirements in line with the VVB and project H&S policies, and the applicable HSE regulations.
  • Pro-actively monitor safety and suggest improvements where applicable.
  • Raise all site generated TQ’s back to the respective project engineer or design manager.
  • Record daily site progress and complete daily construction reports.
  • Attend client meetings
  • Carry out toolbox talks
  • Co-ordinate labour plans with the Workforce Planning Coordinator and actively be involved in the recruitment of operatives

What we’re looking for:

  • Previous experience within a similar position
  • Previous experience managing a large operational team
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical design and construction techniques and methodologies
  • Previous experience in large scale industrial ventilation systems
  • Experience with pumped pipework systems.
  • Experience in building HVAC (Ductwork and split DX systems).
  • HND qualified, or equivalent
  • SMSTS qualified
  • CSCS card holder in management

Location: Croydon
